In 1972 Eddie Sangid placed an ad in the local newspaper to find car enthusiasts interested in forming a car club. Within a month Eddie received more than 100 phone calls! The "car club" was soon formed and was meeting at the Holiday Inn on North Market Street. As they say “the rest is history”.
The Club's name and the "non-computerized" design and publishing of the RRSRA logo soon followed thru the efforts of Ron Elliott assisted by Eddie and Ed Chopin. RRSRA became the first Street Rod club formed and continues to be the longest running chartered Street Rod club in the State of Louisiana. In 1973 RRSRA began having Rod Runs and Car Shows in Shreveport and has held them continuously ever since.. In 1975, Eddie and Ed joined by other members were instrumental in bringing the first World Of Wheels Car Show to Shreveport. This event has been running continuously since and is one of the activities in which RRSRA is involved. From the beginning, RRSRA has held various activities in support various charitable functions in the Shreveport-Bossier area aimed at helping people.
On almost every weekend our members travel together in their street rods on regional roads to Rod Runs and Cruise Nights sponsored by other car clubs. If you have a vehicle that is 30 years old and older or you are a car enthusiast favoring the older Street Rods, you are invited to join us for lots of fun and fellowship while helping to fund worthwhile local charitable foundations. |
38 years ago Ron Elliott's and Ed Chopin's 1923 TBuckets contributed to kick-starting the RRSRA in becoming the premier Street Rod club it is today.
